Smart worm drive?

Dr. Ildikó Járos

8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Worm control methods developed over the past 50 years are no longer sustainable. All over the world, more and more riders are faced with the ineffectiveness of the "well-proven calendar method" on their horses.

A new approach is needed, otherwise our horses will soon become defenseless against parasites!

The lecture will discuss the most important types of worms, their damage, the possibilities of protection against them - including the rules of faecal sludge testing and worming.

Dental bases for horse carriers

Dr. Ildikó Járos

09.00-09.30

A horse's dentition is quite different from a human's: for example, the teeth grow continuously and the back teeth are not even visible without a mouthpiece or a lamp, they are located so deep in the oral cavity.

It is important for all riders to recognize the signs of oral pain (e.g. while riding, eating). The doctor, who also provides primary dental care in her private practice , shares her practical experience with the students and pours clear water  into the glass, from what age and how often equine dentistry is recommended.

Stable and competition hygiene

Dr. Ildikó Járos

09.30-10.00

Mandatory vaccinations primarily protect your own horse, and secondarily the community. By supporting the immunization work of veterinarians, riders, horse owners and competitors also play a huge role in preventing the spread of infectious diseases (e.g. equine influenza, West Nile fever) and certain epidemics (e.g. infectious anemia) should not break out.

Those interested can hear about the basics of hygiene required in the stable, the quarantine rules, as well as the hygiene regulations for traveling to and staying at competitions from the doctor, who is the team veterinarian for the horses of the Hungarian competitors  at the World Equestrian Games and the Hungarian He acted as the "family doctor" of the bred Timpex Bölcsész horse.

The correct way to feed feeds

Dr. Orsolya Kutasi

10.30-11.30

Horses eat most of the day, however, it does not matter what and how much, as well as when and in what form they consume their feed. There are many misconceptions in the public mind that are very harmful to horses. First of all, we will talk about the correct way to feed bran, alfalfa, reward snacks, different types of kibble, pellets, muesli, vitamins and minerals.

In addition to the different feed requirements of horses of different ages and uses, the doctor goes over how it is worth putting together a horse diet, as well as how to interpret the information on feed labels. He received countless questions from horse owners and riders before the show: he tries to answer most of them!

Foodborne diseases and their prevention

Dr. Orsolya Kutasi

11.30-12.30

Changes caused by improper feeding affect many horses to a greater or lesser degree. The majority of colic diseases, some types of stomach ulcers, overweight and   patarisitis, asthma, many joint and foot diseases, certain nervous system and muscle diseases are all consequences of improper feeding. It is important to recognize the early symptoms of diseases and to understand their causes  - all these  doctor Orsolya Kutasi, a specialist in equine internal medicine, shares them with the audience in an understandable and captivating style.

Poisonous plants in feed and around horses

Dr. Dániel Cserhalmi

13.30-14.30

Hay, manure, stable environment and pasture are all possible sources of poisoning for the horse. Riders, horse handlers and riding stable owners are primarily responsible for maintaining the pasture and checking and ensuring the quality of the hay, which are the basis of prevention. In order to implement this in everyday riding practice, it is essential to recognize the most important poisonous plant species and the main symptoms they cause!

Participants can also receive information on which vegetables, fruits, seeds and shavings can be safely fed to the horse as a reward snack or seasonal supplement, and which trees, shrubs or bushes are

non-toxic decoration or shade source in the arena area.

Complementary treatment of musculoskeletal inflammation and pain with herbs

Zsófia Marton

14.30-15.15

It will be about the practical application of herbs that can be used in the complementary therapy of veterinary care for lameness.

The speaker also briefly covers the problems related to the recognition of pain, which fundamentally affect the effectiveness of (medicinal) medicinal herbs.

Students can learn about the raison d'être of medicinal herbs that can be used as supplements to anti-inflammatory drugs, the benefits, limitations, and dangers of their use.

The speaker's 15-year experience with Lóherba® and FitoCavallo® herbal mixtures is based on a combination of Western, active ingredient-based medicine and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine.

Common misconceptions and dangers in equine phytotherapy

Zsófia Marton

15.45-16.30

Nowadays, natural remedies and natural supplements are experiencing a renaissance . Unfortunately, however, it has also become a profitable business in which the rules of not only healing, but also of business life prevail: mass production has become more important than unique therapy.

Phytotherapy should aim to support the healing work of (veterinary) medicine: it can only be performed effectively based on a veterinary diagnosis and with appropriate training. Several rules must be followed to ensure that the horse is not harmed, including consideration of side effects and contraindications and possible drug-herb interactions.

The speaker, who for 8 years has been working in (currently)_cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b-836bad5cf5cf_cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b-836bad5cf5cf, basic information related to the safe storage and use of medicinal herbs acted as a legal referent.

The effect of the body structure of horses on the movement and use of the horse (biomechanics)

Cornelia Deminger

16.30-17.15

Biomechanics looks at the horse's body based on basic physical laws and describes the horse's movements accordingly. With its help, we can understand how the individual bones, muscles, tendons and joints are connected to each other, what role they play in the horse's movement, and how they influence the experience and success of riding or riding.

The presenter tries to make the participants see what a specialist notices on the horse: the crookedness, the asymmetry, the deviations from the rules. He explains why these are a problem and gives some tips for correcting various anatomical defects: with massage and special tasks performed from the ground or while riding many defects can be successfully corrected.

We will talk about the problems caused by the tight bridle, overbending and stiff nape, but also mention the prominent role of the tongue bone, the impact of the teeth on the quality of movement, the importance of giving up the back and the mobilization of the joints.

The basics of saddle fitting

Cornelia Deminger

17.15.-18.00

Without a properly fitting saddle, riding becomes agonizing for the horse - everyone knows that. Fewer people know how to tell if there is a problem with the saddle, and what to do if there is a discrepancy. When should you call a saddler, and when is it enough to just send the measurements and the saddle to the specialist?

In the course of his many years of work as a therapist, the speaker has experienced many times that there are many misunderstandings surrounding saddling and the assessment of saddles. In his presentation, he goes through the important points that must be met for all saddles (whether English, Western or other types). It shows where and how to check the correct fit of the saddle, as well as draws attention to the mistakes that horses and their riders often fall victim to.

His lecture is based on previous lectures on equine dentistry and the recognition of pain.
